Munnar

Munnar is a beautiful hill station located at the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of Indian state of Kerala. Situated at the altitude of 6000 ft Munnar is the meeting point of three rivers which are Madhura Puzha, Nallathanni and Kundala rivers.





Munnar town is a town in Kannan Devan Hills ( KDH ) Village in Devikulam taluk and is one of the largest panchayat in the Idukki district having an area measuring nearly 557 km square. Munnar is considered as one of the reason why Kerala tourism got famous.





In ancient time the Munnar used to serve as the summer resort for the British officers in south India. They choose this place because of its favorable climate and lush green vast lands of tea. Today, tea cultivation has become one of the prime earning means of the hill station. The main economy of Munnar now depends on tourism. Apart from tea plantation Munnar is also famous for various handcraft work which help in developing the economic state of hill station. This hill station is marked by vast lands of colonial bungalows, tea plantations and waterfalls. Trekking and mountain biking is also very famous in the Munnar. Travelers from various places around the world like to visit Munnar for trekking.

Eravikulam National Park

One of the main attractions near Munnar hill station is the Eravikulam National Park. The park is located 15 km from Munnar & is acknowledged preserving endangered inhabitant like the Nilgiri Tahr. The park is also a home to several species of rare butterflies, animals and birds. It is considered as a great place for trekking. View of tea plantation from the park is worth viewing.



Anamudi Peak

The place is located inside the Eravikulam National Park. It is the highest peak in south India at a height of over 2700 m. Trekking to the peak are allowed  only with permission from the Forest and Wildlife authorities at Eravikulam.




Tea Museum:

It holds the heritage of tea plantation among itself. The museum is located in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea in Munnar.




Reaching Munnar can be achieved in all modes of transport. If you are coming by plane then the nearest airport is at kochi and Madurai, situated at 125 kms and 140 kms respectively. By Railways nearest railway station is Theni which is 60 kms away. From all the places mentioned above directbuses or cabs take you to munnar.
